Sonassi

A direct investment taken from seed all the way to a successful trade sale.

Sonassi grew into a market leader in cloud infrastructure and managed platform hosting for Magento, the platform behind a large share of the world's online stores. It ran mission-critical stores for demanding retailers, the kind of work where uptime, performance and support are the product.

From seed to sale

This was a direct investment, held for the long run. Brookland Ventures backed Sonassi at the seed stage and stayed with the company as it built a specialist managed-hosting platform, won a loyal base of Magento merchants, and turned that into dependable recurring revenue. We stayed close through each stage of growth rather than looking for an early exit.

Our job over those years was steady and practical: supporting the team, keeping the focus on service quality and reliability, and helping the business scale without losing what made it the specialist of choice.

The outcome

In 2017 Sonassi was sold to iomart Group plc, the London-listed managed cloud and hosting group, in a trade sale in excess of £20 million. For Brookland Ventures it was a full-cycle realisation: backed at seed, built into a category leader, and sold to a strategic acquirer. It remains the clearest illustration of what the venture strand is here to do.

"Backed at seed, built into a category leader, and realised in full at exit."
